How It Works

Service Dogs can make a huge difference in someone's life. They provide companionship and love to their person. They also assist with tasks of daily living to make life a little easier. These dogs are highly trained to help their person in many different ways. South Plains Service Dogs uses only positive training methods.

There are several different ways to get a service dog. I can assess your dog and see if your dog has the temperament to be trained as a Service Dog. If you do not have a dog or your dog is not a candidate, I can assist you in finding an appropriate dog. I will put together an individualized training plan for you and your Service Dog. This plan will include basic obedience behaviors, as well as behaviors specific to your needs. Training can be done in 2 different ways. Both methods will include training in your home and in public.

Option 1) Training is done in 1 hour sessions twice a week. I will come to your home for 1 session, and we will meet in various public locations for field trips for the other session. Each session is 1 hour.

Option 2) I will train your dog in my home for 6 weeks. This training course is much more intense. I will bring your dog to your home or meet you in public once a week for a session. After the 6 weeks, your dog will come back to live with you. We will continue to meet weekly until your dog is fully trained and ready to start work as a service dog.
